We have all heard that it takes a village to raise a child. Spending time and volunteering for our community’s children is essential. The proverb is attributed to African cultures, that an entire community of people must provide for and interact positively with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment. Children should have the security they need to develop and flourish and be able to realize their hopes and dreams within their community.

Each summer, the First Presbyterian Church of Kingsford, Michigan, holds the largest Vacation Bible School (VBS) in the area for children four years old through those completing 6th grade. This week-long event contains live music, games, crafts, bible stories, and teachings. A few of our team members from Carey Design Build volunteered their time at VBS, along with many other community members.

Luke Carey spent all week performing live music, teaching bible stories, and conducting games. Paige Remali volunteered by taking photos of all the VBS goers enjoying the highlight of their summer. Colleen Carey volunteered her time to fill in where ever help was needed. It takes a village to raise a child!
