We’ve all heard that it takes a village to raise a child. Spending time and volunteering for our community’s children is essential. This proverb, rooted in African cultures, emphasizes that an entire community must provide for and engage positively with children to ensure they grow up in a safe and healthy environment. Children need security to develop and flourish, and they should have the opportunity to realize their hopes and dreams within their community.
Each summer, the First Presbyterian Church of Kingsford, Michigan, holds the largest Vacation Bible School (VBS) in the area for children four years old through those completing 6th grade. This week-long event contains live music, games, crafts, bible stories, and teachings. A few of our team members from Carey Design Build volunteered their time at VBS, along with many other community members.

Luke Carey spent all week performing live music, teaching bible stories, and conducting games. Paige Carey volunteered by taking photos of all the VBS goers enjoying the highlight of their summer. Colleen Carey volunteered her time to fill in where ever help was needed. It takes a village to raise a child!
